The Landscapes of Wild India
India holds ten distinct landscapes, from cold desert to tropical rainforest, each with its own climate, terrain and wildlife.

One of the best field guides in the Western Ghats, deeply knowledgeable and passionate about nature.
He doesn’t just know the forest, he lives and breathes it. Sitting in the middle of the forest and learning like that was something truly special.
We get to connect and revive with nature and our own selves.
It is utterly beautiful, and I cannot wait to go back already.
Dhiraj and Harshita have treated us kindly and shared immense knowledge about the forest.

Born From a Love
for India’s Wilderness
Forested India was born from a deep-rooted love for India’s wilderness and a passion to protect it. What began as a conservation-driven travel initiative is now a multi-faceted organisation working across ecotourism, education, and field-based research.
At our core lies a simple belief: that conservation must be woven into everyday life. That’s why we host hands-on naturalist and teacher training programmes, conduct wilderness camps for children, promote sustainable agriculture, and work closely with rural communities, all while offering soul-stirring expeditions that celebrate India’s natural and cultural heritage.
More Than a
Travel Company
We are a company on a heartfelt mission to reconnect people with the natural world. Founded by passionate conservationists and grounded in years of ecological research, Forested India is dedicated to reviving forests, nurturing biodiversity, and inspiring a deep love for wild spaces.
We curate transformative experiences across India’s most pristine ecosystems, for intrepid explorers, curious learners, and first-time adventurers alike.
A Future Where Every Person
Feels Connected to Nature
We envision a future where every individual, regardless of background or experience, feels a meaningful connection to the natural world. At Forested India, we believe this connection is the first step towards conservation. By fostering curiosity, empathy, and wonder through immersive ecotourism and hands-on education, our goal is to cultivate a generation that doesn’t just admire nature, but actively protects it.
Come, explore wild India with us, not just to witness its beauty, but to become a part of its protection.
The Hearts & Minds
Behind Forested India
With over 17 years of experience studying India’s wilderness, especially the rainforests of the Western Ghats, Dhiraj brings deep ecological knowledge and inspiring storytelling to every experience. A Disney Conservation Hero, he designs and leads our expeditions, workshops, and conservation initiatives with a mission to reconnect people with the natural world.
Harshita combines scientific insight with calm, grounded leadership. She manages field operations and marketing, ensuring our programmes run smoothly. A dedicated naturalist, she also co-leads workshops and heads our all-women expeditions, empowering others to find strength and inspiration in the wild.
What Sets Us Apart
Every expedition is led by experienced, qualified naturalists who have dedicated years to understanding India’s ecosystems: not just guides, but storytellers and scientists.
We deliberately keep our groups small. Fewer vehicles, fewer people, deeper experiences, and far less disturbance to the wildlife and habitats we cherish.
We are not just a travel company. Every booking contributes to on-ground conservation: habitat restoration, community support, and ecological research.

Hands-on programmes that take children and educators
into nature’s own classroom.
Where Education
Meets the Wild
We believe that education is the first and most powerful step towards conservation. Our Jungle School programmes bring together students, educators, researchers, and curious minds of all ages, taking learning out of the classroom and into the living world.
From hands-on field sessions at Forested India Biodiversity Farm to immersive children’s wilderness experiences, every programme is designed to spark wonder, deepen understanding, and build lasting bonds with the natural world.
Interactive sessions on research techniques, taxonomy, wildlife tracking, survival skills, rainforest ecology, herpetology, ornithology, field equipment, and technology in conservation. Designed for curious minds of all ages, from school students to seasoned naturalists.
Empowering educators to take nature into the classroom. These workshops equip teachers with creative tools and ecological frameworks to blend nature awareness and conservation into conventional education, making the natural world a part of everyday learning.
An intensive programme to nurture the next generation of nature guides and conservation communicators. Learn taxonomy, behavioural ecology, field interpretation, and wilderness ethics from professionals with years of experience in Indian ecosystems.
A signature wilderness camp for children aged 6 to 13. Packed with nature walks, fun hands-on activities, campfires, and forest tales, this is where young hearts first fall in love with the wild. A truly transformative experience for the youngest conservationists.

Our Farm in
the Western Ghats
Nestled on the edge of Kudremukh National Park in the Western Ghats, our field station, Forested India Biodiversity Farm, is both sanctuary and classroom. It hosts ongoing research, habitat restoration, and a variety of conservation-led programmes for students, scientists, and nature lovers.
The farm is also home to our sustainable agriculture initiative: cultivating the land in harmony with the forest, integrating traditional wisdom with ecological principles, and running free educational sessions for local communities and small-scale farmers.
What We Do
on the Ground
From local school programmes to expert-led wilderness workshops, our outreach efforts aim to bridge the gap between people and nature. We believe that education is the first step towards conservation.
We actively work towards the regeneration of native forest cover. Our team engages in planting indigenous species, removing invasives, and monitoring ecosystem recovery, one sapling at a time.
As caretakers of wild spaces, we organise and participate in forest trail and river clean-up drives, collaborating with communities, trekkers, and volunteers to preserve the sanctity of nature.
Our farm serves as a base for ecological research, from biodiversity surveys and amphibian studies to behavioural ecology and habitat assessments. We welcome collaborations with institutions and individual researchers.
On the farm, we use organic methods, mixed cropping, and soil-regenerative techniques. We conduct free educational sessions for local communities and small-scale farmers to encourage eco-friendly, climate-resilient farming.
We rescue wildlife in conflict with people across our region, following scientific and ethical practice, and we assist the forest department whenever called upon.
India’s Wild Future
Depends on Those Who See It
Every traveller who witnesses a tiger in its forest, or stands in a restored rainforest patch, goes home changed. We dream of a world where forests thrive, communities coexist in harmony with wildlife, and people find both joy and responsibility in the wilderness. Forested India is our humble step in that direction.
Come be part of a community exploring,
learning, and working towards a wilder India.
